    Forced Induction Component

ForcedInductionComponent produces the characteristic whine/whistle sound of turbochargers and superchargers. The sound scales with boost pressure and includes realistic spool-up and spool-down behavior.

New in v14: This component consolidates the previous TurboWhistleComponent functionality with improved spool simulation.

    Features

    • Turbocharger and supercharger whine sound
    • Configurable spool-up/spool-down inertia
    • Non-linear pitch curves for realistic sound
    • Automatic volume/pitch scaling with boost level

    Settings

    Property Range Default Description
Base Volume 0-1 0.05 Master volume for the forced induction sound
Pitch Range 0-5 1.2 How much pitch increases from idle to full boost
Min Pitch 0-2 0.4 Starting pitch at low/no boost (prevents silent turbos)
Spool Up Speed 0.1-20 5.0 How quickly the turbo spools up (higher = more responsive)
Spool Down Speed 0.1-20 1.5 How quickly the turbo winds down (lower = longer wind-down)
Pitch Curve Exponent 0.5-3 1.6 Controls pitch curve shape. 1 = linear, >1 = accelerates toward peak

Volume scales with boost using a power curve (exponent 1.5) for natural air pressure sound characteristics.

    Typical Configurations

    Defaults (balanced turbocharger):

    • Spool Up: 5.0, Spool Down: 1.5, Curve: 1.6

    Large turbocharger (slow spool):

    • Spool Up: 2.0, Spool Down: 0.8, Curve: 1.8

    Supercharger (instant response):

    • Spool Up: 15.0, Spool Down: 10.0, Curve: 1.0

    Requirements

    • Engine must have ForcedInduction enabled in EngineComponent
    • AudioSource is positioned at the engine location defined in SoundManager settings
